WhisperGuide, Inc. ("WhisperGuide," "we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

1. Who we are
WhisperGuide, Inc. is a Delaware corporation based in New York, NY. We operate the WhisperGuide mobile app and the website at www.whisper-guide.com.
WhisperGuide is a location-based audio storytelling app. The app lets you discover nearby points of interest, listen to AI-generated audio stories about them, and follow themed walking routes.
2. Information we collect
We collect the following categories of information:
Account information
When you create a WhisperGuide account, we collect your first name, last name, username, email address, and password (stored in encrypted form).
Location information
WhisperGuide needs your location to show you nearby points of interest and generate stories about places around you.
We collect approximate or precise location depending on the permission you grant in your device settings.
We only access your location while the app is in use. We do not track your location in the background.
Your location is used to find nearby points of interest, generate relevant audio stories, and create themed walking routes. It is not used to build an advertising profile.
You can change or revoke location permission at any time in your device settings.
App usage data
We collect basic information about how you use the app, such as which categories you select, which stories you play, which routes you start, and which places you save to favorites. This helps us improve the app and understand which features people find useful.
Purchase and subscription information
When you purchase a day pass or subscription, we receive confirmation from Apple App Store or Google Play that your purchase was completed, along with the type of pass or subscription and its expiration date. We do not receive or store your credit card or payment details. All payments are processed by Apple or Google.
Device and diagnostic data
We collect basic device information (device type, operating system, app version) and diagnostic data (crash logs, error reports) to help us identify and fix problems.
User preferences
We store your in-app preferences, such as selected story categories, favorited places, and language settings, so the app remembers your choices between sessions.
3. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
Provide and operate the WhisperGuide app and its features.
Find nearby points of interest and generate audio stories based on your surroundings.
Generate themed walking routes near your location.
Save your favorites, preferences, and history across sessions.
Process and verify your subscription or pass purchases.
Respond to your support requests.
Diagnose technical problems and improve app performance.
Send you account-related emails (such as password resets and important service notices). We do not send marketing emails without your permission.
4. Third-party services we use
WhisperGuide uses the following third-party services to operate the app. Each is used only for the specific purpose listed below. We do not sell your personal information to any of these services or to anyone else.
OpenAI
Purpose: Generating story text and audio narration. What is shared: Place name, location coordinates, and story prompts. No account information is shared.
Google Maps & Places API
Purpose: Map display and finding nearby points of interest. What is shared: Location coordinates and search queries.
Google Custom Search
Purpose: Sourcing place photos. What is shared: Place name and location.
Wikidata
Purpose: Retrieving public information about historical and cultural points of interest. What is shared: Place name and location.
OpenStreetMap (Overpass API)
Purpose: Identifying parks, landmarks, and walking-route geography. What is shared: Location coordinates.
Wikimedia Commons
Purpose: Sourcing public-domain and Creative Commons images. What is shared: Place name.
Cloudinary
Purpose: Hosting images used in the app. What is shared: No personal information.
Render
Purpose: Hosting our backend servers. What is shared: All data flows through Render's infrastructure.
Neon
Purpose: Hosting our database. What is shared: All stored data resides on Neon's secure infrastructure.
Apple App Store / Google Play
Purpose: Processing purchases. What is shared: Handled directly by Apple or Google. We never see your payment details.
We do not sell your personal information to any of these services or to anyone else.
5. How we share your information
We do not sell your personal information.
We share information only in these limited cases:
With the third-party services listed above, only as needed for the app to function.
To comply with the law, such as in response to a valid legal request from a government authority.
To protect our rights, prevent fraud, or address security issues.
In connection with a business transfer, such as a merger or acquisition. If this happens, we will notify users in advance.
6. Location data — important details
We want to be especially clear about how we handle location, because it's the most sensitive data WhisperGuide collects.
WhisperGuide uses your location only while the app is in use, to find nearby points of interest and provide relevant audio stories based on your surroundings.
We do not track your location in the background.
We do not sell or share location data with advertisers.
We do not store a long-term history of your movements. We use your location in the moment to deliver content, then move on.
You can revoke location permission at any time in your device settings. The app will still work, but most of its features depend on knowing where you are.
7. Data retention
We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. We keep purchase records for as long as required by tax, accounting, and legal obligations (typically up to seven years).
If you delete your account, we will remove your personal information within a reasonable period, except for information we are required to retain for legal, security, fraud-prevention, payment, or compliance reasons.

8. Your choices and rights
You have the following choices:
Access or update your account information — log in to the app and update your profile.
Revoke location permission — change it in your device settings at any time.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local privacy laws (such as the GDPR in Europe or the CCPA in California), including the right to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you. You can exercise these rights by emailing us at support@whisper-guide.com.
9. Children's privacy
WhisperGuide is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, email us at support@whisper-guide.com and we will delete it.
10. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted password storage and secure database hosting. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to minimize risk.
11. International users
WhisperGuide is operated from the United States. If you use the app from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify users in the app or by email.
